“He ran off to Canada with his mistress & that’s where Clifford was born.”

In 1907, Clifford’s mother passed away & he was immediately put up for adoption by his father. He went through life never knowing who his biological parents were or what become of his dad & then passed away in 1980. Three generations later, his grandson Tommy heard the story & became fascinated with the mystery.

The government gave him his grandfather’s adoption papers which named the mother & detailed how she died from complications of childbirth. Unfortunately, the father was only listed by his initials & the records contained sparse information about him. Countless hours of research followed but Tommy was still unable to find out what happened to his great-grandfather.

After over a century of unanswered questions, Tommy found Trouvay. He shared his Ancestry DNA results & the researchers began digging. Through analyzing his DNA cousin matches & reverse engineering his family tree, his biological great-grandfather was identified & the story unfolded.

His great-grandfather began his adult life in Chicago where he got married & had five children. Not long after the fifth child was born, he had an affair & ran off to Canada with his pregnant mistress. Clifford was born from this union & tragically the mother died just two weeks after childbirth. The biological father chose to place him for adoption & move back to Chicago. Eventually, he married for a final time, had one more child & passed away soon after. Tommy finally unraveled the family mystery & found a fascinating story in the process.
